These web-based activities were developed, during summer sessions from 1997 through 1999, by students at Mainland High School, located in Daytona Beach, FL. As part of Mainland's CCTT grant, the students were given permission by the book's publisher to convert the ancillary materials of the County's adopted Algebra 1 textbook (Glencoe Algebra 1 — ISBN: 9780028253282) into html format.

1. Students need to prepare a table in which they determine how much time (in minutes) they spend on certain activities. For example: getting ready for school, travelling to/from school, eating (breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner), attending class, after school activities (sports, band, job/work), completing homework, relaxation, getting ready for bed, sleeping .... |

2. Add up all of the times posted and include the sum in the final row. Next calculate the percent of total time spent on each listed activity - remember that your percents should add up to 100%. the. Round you percentage to the nearest whole number.
3. Each student should then create a large, empty circle - marking its center. Using the fact that a circle equals 360°, use your percentages to determine how many degrees should be in each "slice" of your pie.
4. Using a protractor, measure, create, and color in each "pie slice." Label each slice with respective activity and its percent of your total day.
(optional) If EXCEL is available, the creation of your pie chart can be done by that program. Remember to highlight your percent column and insert the chart type as pie. Give you chart a title and print a full page color graph. Most likely you will need to label the percents and activity by hand.
5. Compare your graph with another classmate. Discuss how they are the same and how they are different.
