Mainland's
Rose Bay Legacy Project is a project where everyone learns by sharing and working
together. Opportunities are provided for students to participate in a wide range of
activities.
Exceptional education
students are building and installing picnic tables, signage, and kiosks. English and
social study students have interviewed long-time local residents and are compiling a
history of Rose Bay. TV production students are documenting activities with photos and
video.
- Childcare development students are
planning for and cooking lunches to feed visiting groups as large as 140 people. Art
students are sketching the native plants.
Science students use
water-testing equipment to sample pollutants and oxygenation level. The data they gather
each outing is added to the existing database. Later on, as the restoration project
proceeds, samples will be compared with earlier findings to statistically document the
change in water quality. Math students are completing projects such as estimating
tree heights and conducting water percolation tests. Drama students are writing and
producing slots on environmental topics for elementary and middle school students who
regularly visit the park.
Here is a sample of some
student journals in which they have recorded some of their reflections about RoseBay.
