Introduction
to Rose Bay
In the fall of 1996, Ms.
Chapmans Limnology and Biology II classes were given thirty acres of land to manage,
adjacent to Rose Bay. We have been out to our park many times to collect water samples,
plants, and to see what animals live in our environment.
Presently, we have been
testing water for pH and dissolved oxygen. By working with TV Productions we have been
able to document what we do at the park. We have integrated ESE classes, Food Production,
An, English, Math, and other science classes to form a tighter group of environmentally
aware students. We continue to bring new organizations, people, and even younger students
to our park to show them what types of things we are learning about. We have recently
brought sixty-five fifth graders out to the park for a day of fun and education. Our
students taught the fifth graders how to test water, to identify plants, and how to
protect the environment. We hope by extending this project, that students will become
eager to learn and share the need to take care of our planet.
In the future we
plan to build new trails at the park and even link our park to the Spruce Creek Park. We
also plan to build a pavilion and docks at our Rose Bay site. Our main objective is to
make a fully functional park that can be used by future generations to enjoy and to learn
about our environment.
