Sample Activity	In this experiment, the length of the shadow is a linear function of the height of the object casting the shadow. Each group of two students will select objects to measure. The height of the object is the independent variable, and the length of the object's shadow is the dependent variable.
Equipment	rulers, tape measures, or yard sticks, 1 per group
	objects tall enough to be measured and to make a shadow
	graph paper, 1 sheet per student
Procedure	This experiment requires daylight. Best results are obtained if you do NOT do this experiment around noon. If you must use thin objects, make sure that they are at least 10 inches tall. Be flexible in your plans if it is not a sunny day.
	If there at least 12 groups, have half the groups measure in centimeters, the other half in inches. Keep the data separate; at the end of the experiment you may want to compare the equations and graphs of the different systems of measurment.
