Your team is responsible for developing a concise history of a National Critical Technology (NCT) application, for citing important research that has been conducted and for making a recommendation for continuation funding.  You will then explain how your NCT application has advanced scientific knowledge, identify degree programs where an interested student would pursue research in the field and develop a new degree program to further scientific learning.  And finally, your team will be responsible for locating products and patents in the marketplace (relating to your NTC application), for proposing a new product, for preparing a modified marketing plan and for obtaining an evaluation from a potentially interested company.

Component 1:

Understanding your team's NCT application and research being conducted.

Prepare a 200-300 word history concerning the NCT technical application your team selected.

Cite three detailed examples of research (in the past 3-5 years) which have focused on the NCT application your team selected. Include the funding agency, Principal Investigator, institution where the reseach is being conducted, amount of the dollar award and duration of the research.

Based upon an analysis of the three projects selected and what has been accomplished, select a specific research project that your team would recommend for continuation funding and why.

Component 2:

Impact of the Technology to Science and Education

Using two specific examples, explain how the NCT application your team selected has advanced scientific knowledge

Specify an undergraduate or graduate degree program in science and/or in engineering that a student would pursue to become involved in research directly related to the NCT application your team selected.  Be sure to include the URL address for the name of the Institution and the Department where the program is located. 

Give a title and 100 word description for a new science and/or engineering degree program which might emerge given the advancements in scientific knowledge your team identified.

Component 3:

Commercial Value of Technology

Give two examples and descriptions of products available in the marketplace that are directly related to the NCT application your team selected. 

Identify a patent relating to your team's NCT application.   Identify the owner of the patent, when it was issued, and describe  how it is related to your NCT application.

Propose a new product or process (based on the patent), determine who could manufacture the product, provide details regarding possible customers, suggest a retail price (per unit) and project sales for years 1 - 3.

Obtain a review of your proposed product or process from a company that could manufacture the product/process in the US.
