These web-based activities were developed, during summer sessions from 1997 through 1999, by students at Mainland High School, located in Daytona Beach, FL. As part of Mainland's CCTT grant, the students were given permission by the book's publisher to convert the ancillary materials of the County's adopted Algebra 1 textbook (Glencoe Algebra 1 — ISBN: 9780028253282) into html format.

Practice
Name the property illustrated by each statement.
| 1. 0 + b = b | 2. If x + y = 3, then 3 = x + y. |
| 3. x = x | 4. 4 · 1 = 4 |
| 5. 1 · y = y | 6. 6 = 6 |
| 7. 0 = 0 × 12 | 8. 5 = 5 + 0 |
| 9. If 12 = 17 - 5, then 17 - 5 = 12. | 10. 7(8 - 3) = 7(5) |
| 11. w + (4 + 6) = w + 10 | 12. x + 2 = x + 2 |
| 13. (6 + 9)x = 15x | 14. (7 - 4)(6) = 3(6) |
| 15. xyz = xyz | 16. 8 + 5 = (4 + 4) + 5 |
| 17. If 6 + 3 = 9 and 9 = 3(3), then 6 + 3 = 3(3) |
Evaluate each expression. Name the property used in each step
| 18. 2 + 6(9 - 32) - 2 |
| 19. 5(13 - 39 ÷ 3) + 7 × 1 |
| 20. 7(16 ÷ 42) |
