These web-based activities were developed, during summer sessions from 1997 through 1999, by students at Mainland High School, located in Daytona Beach, FL. As part of Mainland's CCTT grant, the students were given permission by the book's publisher to convert the ancillary materials of the County's adopted Algebra 1 textbook (Glencoe Algebra 1 — ISBN: 9780028253282) into html format.

  1. Yuri had 4 coins consisting of of quarter(s), dime(s), and nickel(s) that totaled 65¢. How many dime(s) did they have? (Hint: Start with the largest coins, quarters, first. Try making 65¢ with 3 quarters first, then two quarters, and then one quarter.)
  2. Rudolpho had 5 coins that totaled 35¢. How many nickels did he have.
  3. Cassandra had 6 coins consisting of nickel(s), dime(s), and quarters(s) that totaled $1.10. How many dimes did she have?
  4. Melanie got a tip that was 7 coins totaling 90¢. How many nickels were there?
  5. Ben had paper money consisting  of $5's, $10's, and $20's. He had 9 bills that totaled $120. How many $10 dollar bills did he have?
