Dr. Michael Salmon, researcher and professor at Florida Atlantic University, was awarded a $4,000 grant in 1998 to research the effectiveness of amber shields installed on streetlights. The grant was awarded by Florida Power and Light Company (FPL). This research demonstrated that while amber lenses effectively reduced short wavelengths of light, sea turtle hatchlings did not orient to the ocean as directly as when the streetlights were turned off. The manufacturer of the lenses, General Electric, went "back to the drawing board" to improve the filtering effect of the lenses. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
