Seeing Things in the Mind's Eye

Developed by Melinda Stanley

Complete four of the six activities.

1.  Patanjali describes the three states of visual imagery:  Dharana, dhyana and samadhi.  Research Patanjali and the three states and report on your findings.  Your report can be in any form, such as a visual presentation, written report, multimedia presentation or video.

2.  Experiment with the techniques listed in the exercise above.  Document or present your results.

3.  Explain how visual imagery can make you a more creative and productive student and/or employee.  For example, how can it help you in goal setting, communication or values clarification.  Document or present your results.

4.  Create a how-to instruction manual or video on visual imagery.

5.  Draw, paint or sketch your visualization.  It can be on anything that you visualize, a dream, a house, a location, a look, etc.

6.  Develop a relaxation exercise to help you prepare to visualize.  Document your exercise and include details about the surrounding environment.
