Activity #1 Managing Space
1. Refer to the book entitled Using Resource, developed by Agency For Instructional Technology, located in the Mainland High School Media Center.
2. Read the article entitled " Managing Space " on page 50.
3. After reading the article, complete the following:
a. Read the section entitled "Looking Forward", located on pages 50 and 51. Write a short summary of what you learned. Describe how the shuttle and a recreational vehicle use space efficiently.
b. Read the section at the top of page of 51, entitled "Key Ideas." Write a sentence for each word or word groups found under "Key Ideas".
c. Read the section entitled "Moving Ahead", on pages 51 and 52. Upon completing this section, write 5 criteria that might affect the cost of various business locations.
d. Read the section entitled "Sneak Preview", on page 52 and answer questions 1 - 3.
e. Read the section entitled "A Closer Look", on page 53 and answer the three questions that follow.
f. Read the section entitled "On The Job - Casting Call". Answer the following questions:
(1.) Why did Jaylin Gaines choose not to buy a building for his business ?
(2.) What feature appealed to Jaylin regarding the location of the building he leased ?
(3.) How was Jaylin able to afford the rent when it seemed beyond his budget?
g. Read the section entitled "e-skills" ,located on page 55. Write a paragraph discussing how businesses have adjusted their use of office space to the changing needs and practices of their workers.
h. Read the section at the bottom of page 55 entitled "Can you play at work? " After reading this section, answer the question, Can you play at work?
i. Read the introductory paragraph found on page 56. Complete the 4 activities found on pages 56 and 57.
j. Read the section entitled "Skillfully Done", located on page 57. Complete the floor plan activity located in this section.
k. Read the section entitled "Quality Control", located on page 58. Complete the 5 activities found on pages 58 and 59.
l. Read the section "A Custom-made Guitar Plant ". Write a summary regarding what you learned.
m. Read the section entitled "Overtime", located on page 59.
Activity # 2: After, completing the above article, draw a plan for a business office.
Activity # 3: Organize a home study area or office in your bedroom or in another location in your home. Take a picture of the area you organized and show it to a designated teacher.
Activity # 4 Create a Home Inventory
1. Go to Microsoft Works Task Wizards- Household Management - Home Inventory section. or another type of simulation.
2. Copy examples of home inventories.
3. After reviewing the examples, create a home inventory of all of your personal processions/assets. Include the value of each asset.
Activity # 5 Divide your assets into at least 3 categories. Create a personal inventory for each category. For example CDs, books, art collection, hobby collection, etc..
Activity # 6: Work independently to build or create something.
Collect materials or art supplies to complete a building project. Some ideas would be to complete a ceramic project , build a bird house, model airplane or race car, sew a dress, etc.
Show your completed project to a designated teacher/person.
