Dear Mrs. Chapman,
Rose Bay was a great focus of my time in high school during my senior and part of my junior years in high school. I'm glad that I had the chance to go out to an outdoor classroom and learn with hands on techniques. Rose Bay helped teach me leadership skills along with other skills such as plant identification, using a range finder, and a G.P.S. unit.
Through working out at Rose Bay, I have gained an internship with the County of Volusia working with Randy Sliester on the Section 16 Project in Deltona.
I have had my internship extended once and both Randy and I are looking to extend it an additional time.
The work I did at Rose Bay was hard and it taught me not to give up. I worked on the trail system at Rose Bay and learned that building trails is not as easy as it sounded. The trail system at Rose Bay was designed and cut by me along with some students that I instructed on trail blazing. I also learned a new respect for nature and that if we don't
help now it will not be there in the future.
Rose Bay was the kind of experience that is needed more for more in depth education in today's schools. I hope the Rose Bay project continues and more are like are around when I have children and they start high school. Rose Bay is a great
learning tool and should be used more often than it is and continue on in the future.
I would like to thank Mrs. Chapman for giving me the chance to lead and team at the same time while at Rose Bay and during high school.
Sincerely,
David S. Mellette
